My IS Day

My daily use of information system starts with the alarm that rings to wake up and the messages I check in my cell phone, my phone is a hardware and the software allows me to input the time when I want to wake up, receiving and sending messages through a software, I have a software downloaded in my phone that gives me all the information such as; weather updates, currency rates, news and events. Procedure that I have to follow is I have to download softwares to my cell phone, input time for the alarm to ring, and navigate through data that has been downloaded by me such as; calendar, maps, ring tones and so on and so forth. Later in the day I check my e-mails on my laptop, surfing on the internet and do my assignments , I like to do my assignments on Microsoft word because with all these new features I learned in my business applications class I can now easily utilize my skills and make my assignments look the best. After I finish my assignment I save my work, print preview it and use my printer to print my assignment. I do all my assignments and tasks that are giving to me with a lot of hard work.
Computer hardware – use of computer

People – I do it myself

Business Process

Recently I went for shopping to the mall and I wanted to buy a laptop for myself, so I went to best buy to buy one. I went to the store and a sales representative guided me to the product and helped me pick a laptop of my choice, he gave me all the information regarding the laptop such as; the configurations, the price and the add-ons. After making up my mind I decided to go ahead and make the purchase, the sales representative adding all the software’s and gave me a back up cd for the drivers of the computer and after inputting all the information. I was moved to the cash register to pay for my laptop. I purchased my laptop through a credit card and obtained a receipt of my purchase.

In this business process the four components that were used are:
Activity – I went to the store to buy a laptop
Resource – I was being helped by a sales representative
Facility – All the softwares were added in my laptop by the sales person
Information – credit card information that I provided to the cashier and the laptop information that was added into their system

My Favourite Sustainable and Disruptive Technologies

My favourite sustainable technology would be the hybrid vehicles. Among all the sustainable technologies out there in the world I find hybrid vehicles the most amazing of all technologies. It is gas friendly; with gas prices rising every now and then I am happy that hybrid vehicles will decrease the stress that we have of spending so much money on gas. Hybrids are much cleaner cars than other fuel vehicles with lesser CO and other greenhouse gas emissions. Hybrid vehicles give you a better mileage, they are good for the economy because as we have seen that the automobiles are increasing, world is at big threat of toxic pollutants and global warming, due to their exhaust ingredients. The reduction in the tail pipe emission will help the environment as well as the society. I like it because overall it is good for the economy and for future generations.

My favourite disruptive technology is wireless network (Wi-Fi). The benefits of a wireless connection is we can connect to internet easily whether we are home, at work, in school or any place else. I can access easily to my iPhone, laptop, and other various gadgets that has Wi-Fi connection facility. It is a great alternative to broadband wire line. No hassle of connecting to the internet through wires and modems. I like the fact that I can stay connected anytime, anywhere and get information that I need by using the internet.

Business Leaders I admire

Warren Edward Buffett was born in August 30, 1930, he is an American investor, businessman, and philanthropist. He is one of the most successful investors in the world, he is the main shareholder and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and in 2008 he was ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world. Reason for which I admire him is because of his dedication towards his work, and also because of his optimistic approach.

Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs was born in February 24, 1955, he is an American Businessman, and the co-founder and chief executive officer of the company name Apple. Jobs previously served as CEO Pixar Animation Studio. Reason why I admire him is because later in his career, Jobs was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his pancreas. However, he did not give up in life he stayed focused and fought with the disease he was suffering from, he did not lose hope and continued working hard and achieved what he wanted in life.

Work Experience

My first job was in Erin Mills Town Centre in the year 2005; I worked at a Spa named Merle Norman Cosmetics for almost two years as a receptionist and as an assistant manager. Some of my duties there were to attend customers and sell cosmetics and other skin care products; I did a few services such as waxing, threading of the eyebrow and also tinting of the eyelashes and eyebrows. Most of my work was at the front desk and I performed all the duties that are associated with the receptionist position such as; attending phone calls, dealing with enquiries, booking appointments, inputting customer’s information in the POS system, dealing with head office issues such as; placing orders, sending redeemed gift certificates and so on and so forth.

I am currently working as a rental agent at National car rental Inc. Some of my duties at my workplace are renting vehicles to travelers and others who need cars for short periods of time, such as business people, vacationers, and drivers, whose cars are being repaired, the procedure that has to be followed is to fill out forms, check driver's licenses, and collect deposits in cash or credit card. When cars are returned, I prepare the final bills for rental fees and mileage charges. Most of the mathematical computations I do on the computer. And I also handle customers’ complaints and problems.

My work experience at both workplaces has been great and almost everyday I have learned something new. I have gotten to work with staff members and I have enjoyed my work experience through out and I am hoping it would be the same in future. I have also volunteered at the day care centre when I was in high school. I had a wonderful experience and I really enjoyed interacting with little children and taking care of their needs.

My Personal goals

One of my goals for the future is to be happy regardless of what I choose to do in life, I want to be satisfied with my decisions, another goal I want to achieve is to keep my parents happy and plan a hassle free and a luxurious life for them because in the past they have seen hardships; I always want to support them and be there for them through thick and thin. I want to give them all the joy and comfort in life. Moreover, I want to be independent. I tend to think big picture and long term so therefore these are my personal future goals:
Financial/Career
· I want to invest some of my savings in real estate
· I want to buy my own apartment
· I want to open up a business for my father
· I want to make my name in the business field
Spiritual
· I want to read Quran (holy book) once daily
· I want to pray five times daily
· I want to give proper offering to God Almighty through the Mosque every Friday
Miscellaneous
· I want to get my G license this summer
· I need to work on my time management skills
· I want to buy my own car (Cadillac) if possible
· I want to change my habit of stressing out over little things

Goal setting is very difficult when one is not sure of the uncertainties of life. But it definitely helps you to stay on the right path and keeps you focused because it guides you through a path to which you should follow, for me it is the best thing because by setting goals I know what I want from life. However, in order to achieve my goals I will have to work hard and use the SMART strategy to fulfill my dreams.
